House fire displaces family of three
EB Cooper Hwy fire
A Walthourville volunteer firefighter battles flames Sunday on E.B. Cooper Highway.
A mobile home fire Sunday morning in the 3800 block of E.B. Cooper Highway displaced a husband and wife and their granddaughter. Charlie Houston and his family had lived in the home for more than 15 years.
Houston said the fire started around 9:30 a.m., and when firefighters from the Walthourville Fire and Rescue Department arrived they found the home engulfed in flames.
Houston said he had been cleaning the church where he worships when a family member told him his home was on fire. He rushed to the house.
Houston said his wife told him the television had exploded and started the fire.
Houston said he would get help from family members, who began arriving to console the family before the flames were out.
