Dec. 19: Matter of record — A Midway woman called deputies about a possible suicide attempt when a male relative reportedly told his family “goodbye” and said he loved them before leaving the home on foot.
The woman said her relative refused to answer his phone after leaving the house. Deputies found the man near Islands Highway and Exit 76. He told deputies he had no control over his life and no way to get it back on track. The man said his wife was living in El Paso, Texas, and refused to move to Georgia with him. He said it would be easier if he wasn’t around and that he didn’t have the strength to wake up anymore. The man told deputies he planned to go to the bridge at Exit 76 and make his decision there. Deputies transported the man to a local hospital for evaluation.

• Fraudulent activities — A Fleming woman told deputies she had been contacted by two women who said they wanted to buy products from her. The woman said she was sent checks in “much larger” amounts than the actual cost of the products. The would-be customers told the woman to send the remainder of the money to them by Western Union. She deposited one of the checks and it was flagged by her bank. The woman told deputies no money had been taken from her.

• Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon/seat belt violation/brake light violation — A deputy pulled over a motorist for not wearing his seat belt and having a broken brake light. When the deputy approached the vehicle, he began to suspect all three occupants were inebriated.
The deputy asked the driver if he had any liquor or weapons in the truck. The driver said there was a shotgun in the back of the truck behind the seat but no alcohol.
The deputy asked the driver if he had ever arrested before, and the man said he was a convicted felon.
The deputy put him in the back of his cruiser and had the other men step out of the truck. The other passengers produced open containers and cups of alcohol. The deputy found two loaded shotguns and several rounds of ammunition. The driver was taken to jail, and the two passengers were cited for open-container violations.
