A Long County sheriff’s deputy en route to assist another officer Friday night was injured when his vehicle collided with another vehicle.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper David Harris said in a telephone interview this (Saturday) morning that the deputy, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, was traveling east on highways 84 and 38 near Airport Road when his 2008 Ford Crown Victoria struck a 1984 Ford pickup from behind.

The deputy was transported by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup suffering from a head injury. The driver of the pickup and a passenger were treated at the scene and released.

The accident occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. during rainy conditions.

Harris said the accident investigation was ongoing.
