An argument between a man and his former wife’s boyfriend reportedly escalated into a stabbing this past Tuesday in Long County, according to authorities.
William Riley Burnett, 46, of Ludowici was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the incident.
Long County Sheriff’s Department investigator Nickey Anderson said Burnett went to the home of Steven Robert McDowell at about 6:30 p.m. and told him he had driven his car into a ditch and asked for help in removing it.
McDowell reportedly agreed to lend assistance. But when Burnett’s ex-wife stepped outside the home and McDowell told Burnett they were living together, an argument ensued.
According to Anderson, Burnett then tried to strike McDowell, who then grabbed Burnett and held him to keep from being hit.
McDowell told authorities he then felt something stabbing him in the back, so he let go of Burnett.
Afterward, Burnett left the scene, and was later found and arrested.
Anderson said the victim was examined, and it was determined he had suffered two stab wounds and a cut on the left side of his back, and another stab wound to the left side of his chest.
Burnett was charged with aggravated assault.
He was taken to the sheriff’s department and was awaiting a bond hearing.
