Two home-intrusion suspects who thought a Long County residence was deserted were surprised May 2 when a neighbor foiled their entry attempt and fired a shot at them.
Around 9 p.m., two men broke into a home on Laurel Way NE, which is off DeLoach Road, according to Long County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Al Cato. He said the home is owned by a Fort Stewart soldier who is overseas. The soldier asked a neighbor to watch the home.
The neighbor noticed a light on in his friend’s home and retrieved a gun before heading next door to check it out. The neighbor found a broken door and entered the residence, where he saw two men who then fled.
The neighbor pursued the intruders, fired a shot at the two men and then called 911 to report the break-in.
Cato said the suspects were not able to take anything as they fled, but authorities are looking for them. Anyone who knows anything about the incident or the suspects should call the LCSO at 545-2118.
