police lights

An alleged hit-and-run occurred Tuesday night in Ludowici, and law enforcement is asking for the public’s help in the investigation.
According to Ludowici Police Chief Robert Poppell, at around 8 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the intersection of Macon Street and Elim Church Road, where they found Ludowici resident Richard Gordon, 31, lying on the ground. According to Poppell, Gordon said he was walking on the side of the road when a Chevrolet vehicle went through the intersection, struck him and continued to drive away. Gordon said that he then called 911.
Poppell said that Gordon’s injuries appeared to be minor, but was transported by an EMS unit to Memorial Medical University Center in Savannah. According to Gordon, Poppell said, the vehicle that struck him appeared to be a 1990s model that looked similar to a Cavalier or Malibu.
Poppell said that the investigation was turned over to the Georgia State Patrol.
Anyone with information on the alleged hit-and-run is asked to call the LPD at 545-2222 or the GSP at 912-370-2600.
