A Midway woman suffering from diabetes plowed through a Bryan County cemetery Friday afternoon
According to GSP Trooper Sgt. 1st Class Chad Riner, the woman identified as Janice Harmon of Midway was traveling south on Highway 17 when she lost control of her Jeep Cherokee at around 4:40 p.m.
Harmon suffered from a bout of low blood sugar, which caused her to black out. The vehicle crossed the median into the northbound lane and smashed through a fence that surrounded the Daniel Siding Cemetery.
The Jeep continued to travel through the cemetery, destroying five tombstones and damaging two overhead shelters, which were covering new graves.  The vehicle stopped when it struck a tree.
Harmon was taken to Winn Army Community Hospital with minor injuries. Riner said there would be no charges filed due to her medical condition.
