'Possible homicide' investigated in Jesup

Authorities are investigating what they term a “possible homicide” in Jesup.

In a news release issued Wednesday night, Wayne CountySheriff John Carter and Jesup police Chief Glenn Takaki announced that the Jesup-Wayne County Criminal Investigations Task Force and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are investigating a “possible homicide” they say occurred at 384 Highway 301 S. The release did not identify what the address is, but it matches that of Red Carpet Inn in Jesup.

Jesup police officers responded to a call for service in reference to a “possible unattended death” just after 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to the news release.

“Upon their arrival, officers found a white male in one of the rooms that appeared to have suffered an injury,” the release says.

The release adds that the victim’s identity is being withheld until positive identification is confirmed and that the investigation is ongoing.

No further information was given.
