Red Cross mounting relief campaign

The Liberty County Chapter of the American Red Cross is teaming up with others to raise money for the work the relief agency does.
While it is the mission of the Red Cross to provide assistance to victims of disasters, most people do not realize that Red Cross chapters must raise the funds necessary to provide that assistance, campaign chairwoman Vanessa Collins said.
“Virtually every minute of every day a family loses their home to fire. On average, volunteers are called out every day to help at least one local family that has lost everything they own in a house fire,” Collins said.
One way the Red Cross is raising money is the Helping Everyday Responders Offer Emergency Services program. HEROES is a grassroots campaign in which business people, school groups, church groups, civic clubs and individuals pledge to raise $1,000 through any legal means they choose, for the local Red Cross chapter.
This year, Liberty County aims to raise $15,000 or more during the campaign. All money raised will stay local for your neighbors in Liberty County.
For more information, call Mark Hunt at 876-3975 or Denese Register at (912) 547-1110. HEROES are still needed and your contribution will ensure these much needed services will continue.
