A Walthourville man was shot several times Monday night in a mobile-home park on Wilder Road.
Authorities are searching for the gunman, according to Walthourville Police Chief Tracey McFadden.
The victim, later identified as Jermaine Lachard Powell, 31, was working on a vehicle in front of his residence in the McDonald Estate Mobile Home Park around 9 p.m. when 11 shots were fired from a passing white van. The victim was hit four times, according to Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Det. Tracey Jennings.
According to an incident report filed by Lt. Wade Long, the first officer on scene,  Powell went to a neighbor’s house and told him he had been shot.
The victim was driven to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville by the owner of the vehicle he had been detailing. The passenger-side window of that vehicle — a white pickup — was shattered during the shooting. Jennings said Powell later was airlifted to Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, where he was in critical condition at press time.
Jennings is asking the public to call the sheriff’s office at 876-2131 with any information on the shooting.
