An accident Thursday afternoon in Midway claimed the lives of a Charleston, W.Va., couple on Interstate 95.
Georgia State Patrol Trooper Sgt. Bruce DeLoach said Martha and Harold Pittman, both 71, were traveling north near mile marker 77 when Martha Pittman, for unknown reasons, exited the road on the left shoulder, causing her to lose control of the 2005 Chevy Suburban, which flipped several times.
Harold Pittman was pronounced dead at the scene. Martha Pittman was airlifted to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where she later died.
It is unknown where the couple was coming from. The accident is under investigation.
