Two unrelated wrecks kept Hinesville traffic accident investigators and Liberty EMS busy Aug. 29. Just before noon, a male driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle as he attempted to make a turn from Highway 84 onto Courtland Drive. According to lead traffic investigator Les Patton, the driver attempted the turn while traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control, sending the Nissan into the median on Courtland Road. The vehicle stopped when it hit a palm tree, knocking it to the ground and partially blocking the north side of Courtland Drive. The driver told officers Patton and Michael Mooney his brakes failed as he made the turn. The driver was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center.

Second wreck
At about 5 p.m., a head-on collision occurred on Airport Road, resulting in two people being injured.
Reportedly, a Saturn hydroplaned on Airport Road, east of Pineridge Way, and collided with a Chrysler Sebring. The impact knocked the Sebring into the ditch on the south side of the road. According to lead investigator Patton, one person was taken to Savannah Memorial while the other was taken to Winn Army Hospital at Fort Stewart. Airport Road was closed to traffic for about one hour.
The names of all parties involved were not released.
Both wrecks are under investigation.
