Dr. Deloris Mitchell has been assisting the American Red Cross with diversity and inclusion before it was popular.
Dr. Mitchell has been a sickle cell champion for many years. Her organization and tapestry connections help families impacted by sickle cell and find solutions to their challenges.
On Tuesday, Dr. Mitchell was recognized with a Service Award for her efforts in coastal Georgia.
Dr. Mitchell has helped engage the Georgia sickle cell foundation in many communities in Liberty, McIntosh, Glynn, Wayne and Bryan counties to help educate youth on the importance of knowing their sickle cell trait status and why a diverse blood supply is critical to the longevity of all ethnicities and races.
