Anglers competed on Saturday, September 12th in the 7th Annual Hinesville Rotary Club Fishing Tournament presented by Lance’s Concrete and held at the Sunbury Crab Company.

“We paid out a total of nearly $7,100 in cash prizes,” said Jack Standard, Rotary member and chair of the fishing tournament. “In each of the two categories, we paid $1,400 to first place, $750 to second place and $200 to third place. We had 47 entries in the tournament, and we paid out nearly $8,700 in cash prizes and raffles that were awarded.”

When all the scores were tallied, fishermen and the families gathered at the Sunbury Crab Company for awards and door prizes. The rules for the event allowed each team to turn in their four largest trout and two redfish.

The entertainment was sponsored by Harris Ace Hardware and featured a DJ who played from 3-9pm. With a drive thru registration event held on Friday, September 11th hosted by Adam Herndon State Farm the anglers were able to come out, finalize the rules and prepare for the tournament the next day.

Other sponsors included: SNF; Marshland Credit Union; Ameris Bank; Low Country Turf & Ornamental; The Heritage Bank; Explore Liberty; GeoVista Credit Union; TR Long Engineering; Georgia Power; The Shanken Team, Coldwell Banker Southern Coast, Realtors and Leigh Smiley, Coldwell Banker Southern Coast, Realtors.

The tourney’s purpose is to raise money for scholarships, speech competitions and the MAP International/Diversity Health Clinic “Saving Lives with Medicine” partnership. Proceeds also would go toward community projects like the storm drains Rotarians mark each year to show which drains carry storm water and run-off to Peacock Creek and the North Newport River.
