A house in Ludowici caught fire and was destroyed Saturday night.

A single story home in the center of Ludowici was destroyed in a Saturday night fire.
According to Long County Fire Chief Chris Moss, the fire began shortly before 9 p.m. The first fire unit arrived within four minutes.
Mutual aid was requested for agencies such as the Long County Sheriffs Office, Ludowici Police Department, Excelsior Ambulance Services, and the Long County State Prison, as well as Walthourville and Gum Branch fire departments.
Long County Sheriff Craig Nobles said the home, not far from his office, was occupied by one man who has lived in the residence for many years.
One firefighter had to be transported to a local area hospital for unknown reasons. He was treated and later released.
Moss said the homeowner was not home at the time and unfortunately three dogs were killed in the fire.
