Serious wreck claims one life

A two car accident on Highway 84 near Barrett Cemetery Road had the roadway closed in both directions on the evening of Feb. 26.

According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper, Markus White one person died as the result of the wreck, the other driver was seriously injured.

White said a woman driving a 2014 Ford Escape heading westbound was attempting to make a U-turn at an intersection where motorists are allowed to do. But the woman pulled into the path of a man driving a 2016 Ford Taurus causing both vehicles to collide according to a preliminary investigation.

The accident occurred shortly after 11:30 pm.

Life Star was dispatched to transport the man to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah but shortly left without him.

The man was later transported by ambulance to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville where he was pronounced deceased. The woman was transported by ambulance to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah where her condition is unknown.

The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) was called to assist in the investigation.

The Ludowici/Long County Volunteer Fire and Rescue as well as the Walthourville Volunteer Fire and Rescue and the Long County Sheriffs Office was on scene to assist.
