Several people have been injured in a multiple-vehicle accident on Highway 144 East at mile marker 14 Fort Stewart after a head-on collision earlier this afternoon. No fatalities have been reported and the road should be open shortly, according to Fort Stewart PAO Maj. Matthew Fontaine.

Richmond Hill Fire Chief Ralph Catlett said his department was called to provide mutual aid by helping extricate a victim from one of the vehicles and also prepare a landing zone for LifeStar.

The extent of the injuries are unknown. The wreck reportedly occurred between 2-3 p.m.

Accoding to Fort Stewart PAO, one civilian vehicle, two military HUMMVs and a government "non-tactical" vehicle were involved in the wreck.

Highway 144 east toward Richmond Hill is currently closed and motorists are reportedly being diverted at Old Sunbury Road in Hinesville.
