Atlanta gets half inch of snow
State asks residents to stay off roads

ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia officials are asking motorists to avoid driving on the state's icy roads.

Department of Transportation spokesman Paul Marshall urged drivers to stay home if possible and warned them to stay away from downtown Atlanta in particular.

The National Weather Service says Atlanta officially received 0.6 of an inch of snow, half of its yearly average. Foercaster Laura Griffith says totals in the mountains are higher.

The DOT says 27 vehicles were involved in a crash before 5 a.m. Friday on the ramp from I-285 westbound to I-85 northbound in College Park. Three motorists were transported to hospitals.

Authorities in Cherokee County Sheriff's deputies say a 50-year-old Acworth woman skidded off a road and died Thursday night.

A police cruiser was involved in a Gwinnett County wreck. There were no serious injuries.
