SAVANNAH — Sizzling temperatures have broken a 131-year-old heat record in Savannah.

The National Weather Service says Savannah reached a high temperature of 101 degrees Monday. That's hot enough to retire the previous record of 100 degrees set on June 13, 1880.

Savannah isn't the only city in southern Georgia sweltering under triple-digit heat.

The weather service says high temperatures reached 102 degrees Monday in Walthourville in Long County as well as the city of Metter in Candler County.

In Effingham County, the city of Guyton reached 101 degrees while Statesboro, Sylvania and Glennville all had highs of 100 degrees.
