ATLANTA -- Wednesday, the state Senate passed a resolution that names the interchange at I-95 and I-16 after Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
"There have only been five Supreme Court justices from Georgia, and Justice Thomas was the first one in almost 90 years," said Sen. Eric Johnson (R-Savannah). "He is also only the second African-American Supreme Court justice to serve our on nation's highest court. We are proud of his accomplishments and want to honor our native son."
Justice Thomas was born in Pin Point, just south of Savannah.
The resolution, SR 1055, awaits approval from the House.
