Voters in Liberty County’s 1st District will go back to the polls next month.
Larry Baker and incumbent Marion Stevens Sr. will be in the runoff after neither got more than 50% of the votes cast in Tuesday’s Democrat primary. Baker, a former Walthourville mayor, got the most votes, with 726, or 40.5%. Stevens got 682, or 38.1%. Stanley Brown Sr., a former Midway City Council member, was third with 384 votes.
The winner will face Michael Cook, who had no opposition in the Republican primary, in November’s general election.
Connie Thrift, the District 3 incumbent, fended off a challenge from Janelle Johns in Tuesday’s primary, winning 317-304. Thrift will face Republican challenger Gregory Lachowsky in November’s general election. Lachowsky was not opposed in the Republican primary.
“I feel very humbled and honored to serve the folks of the 3rd District,” Thrift said. “I thank all of them for caring about and supporting me.”
Thrift, who is one of the longest-serving commissioners, said she looks forward to November’s general election.
“They have trusted me,” she said of the 3rd District residents. “I’m retired — I have the time and the energy to serve. I don’t take it lightly. There’s a lot of growth in Liberty County, and we need to make sure it’s done right.”
Justin Frasier faced no opposition in his quest for re-election as the 2nd District commissioner
