Liberty County children’s advocate Patrick Underwood intends to run for Walthourville city council in the November election.

Underwood was born in Lawton, Okla. His mom and dad were stationed to Fort Stewart in 1989, so he made Liberty County his home. Underwood graduated from Liberty County High School in 1998.

After high school he went straight to the workforce. He’s been a resident of Walthourville for more than eight years.

He worked in the grocery business for over 20 years and recently retired from Publix, where he was assistant grocery manager.

Underwood said helping people is his passion and he has helped parents and students with different situations in the Liberty County School System. He decided to run for Walthourville city Council to help more people.

Underwood also said he has new ideas he can bring to Walthourville, and the city has potential to grow. One area that needs improvement is sidewalks, and Dunlevie Road in particular is in need of a sidewalk.

Walthourville also needs a gym for the youth, and kids can do more than play basketball at a gym, he said.

“I just want to make people lives better in Walthourville, period,” he said.

Underwood been married to Wendy Underwood for 22 years. They have three children, two sons in college and a daughter in high school.

Underwood will make his announcement official in August during qualifying for the November city elections.
