Walthourville child dies days later after being found in backyard pool

A two-year-old Walthourville boy has died several days after being found submerged in a backyard pool on Sept. 28, according to Liberty County Coroner Reginald Pierce.

The toddler, identified as Draven Smith by Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Max Brown, was discovered unconscious in a pool at his home in the 100 block of Rosebud Court in Walthourville, shortly before 5 p.m.

Law enforcement officers and medical personnel were able to stabilize the child and rush him by police escort to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville where he was later flown to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

He remained unconscious until Saturday morning and was pronounced dead at 10:06 a.m.
