Larry Baker and Sarah B. Hayes are headed to a runoff to determine the mayor’s seat in Walthourville.
Baker, the incumbent mayor, received 200 of the 510 votes cast, falling short of the majority needed to retain his seat. Hayes, who is currently mayor pro tem, was next with 130 votes. Fellow council member Charlie L. Anderson received 96 votes and Paulette Jamison received 84 votes.
The runoff is scheduled for December 5.
With Anderson and Hayes both giving up their council seats to run for mayor, there will be three new members of the Walthourville City Council after incumbent James Hendry lost. Challenger Mitchell Boston claimed the post 1 seat with a 268-224 victory.
For the vacant post 2 position, Patrick Underwood defeated former mayor Daisy Pray 269-229. Bridgette Kelly was one of two incumbents to survive, as she beat challenger Alan Stewart 297-196 for her post 3 seat. Luciria Luckey Lovette, from post 4, did not face any opposition.
Robert Dodd claimed the vacant post 5 seat with a 258-237 win over Patricia Green.
Mayor Chris Stacy did not face opposition in Riceboro, where one new council member will be sworn in.
Incumbents David Miller, Joseph Young and Louise R. Brown were the top three vote-getters, and Tim Akra collected 119 votes, two more than incumbent Pearlie Axson, to claim the fourth spot on the council. Miller received 157 votes, Young had 149 and Brown had 142.
James Willis faced no opposition in election as mayor of Allenhurst. Incumbents Eleanor J. Easton and William Harrell were returned to office and challenger Nicole Reed was third in the four-person race for the three seats, edging out incumbent Steve Welborn 46-44 for the final council seat.
