Editor, The special purpose local option sales tax is another example of Liberty County spending taxpayers’ money before it is even collected, making the taxpayers liable for county expenditures.
The last SPLOST period was for six years. Liberty County should not have spent more money than it would have collected in those six years. That was irresponsible. The county wants to spend even more money over and above what is already owed beyond what the last SPLOST brought in by committing to a new SPLOST.
Currently, Liberty County is threatening to raise property taxes to cover the county’s excessive spending, unless we vote to extend SPLOST. Just remember, folks, you voted for these clowns and then voted to tax yourselves when you voted for SPLOST in the past. You will have SPLOST commitments with you for as long as you allow the county to spend your money.
SPLOST might not be a property tax, but it is a tax, and one that you will pay every day.
