Gilliard-Henderson scholarship a hit

Editor, On behalf of Georgia Coastal Youth Inc. (CEO Chris Stacy) and Seven Ministries (President Gary Gilliard), we would like to thank the community for its support of our efforts to raise funds for The Jackie Gilliard-Henderson Memorial Scholarship.
Success is defined in many ways. Webster tells us that success is the gaining of something desired, planned or attempted. Our plans and attempts were successful, and we received our desired results to raise scholarship funds for the youth of this community.
GCY sponsored a softball tournament May 14 and while the rain slowed things down a bit, we want to thank the teams for participating and making this event successful as well. The softball tournament will become an annual event, and next year more teams will participate. The plan is to have the tournament coincide with the walk-a-thon during a weekend celebration May 18-20, 2012.
The walk-a-thon fundraiser was more than successful, and I want to thank Hinesville and Liberty County for making this happen.
First, thanks to my good friend Hinesville Police Department Chief George Stagmeier for the parade permit and the support of his officers. Thanks to my friends from the world of politics. Thanks to the churches and, in particular, Pastor Sinclair L. Thorne, Deacon Walter Taylor and the entire First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Family. Thanks to my friends from the business community. Thanks to the employees from CH2M Hill-OMI whom I work with and to the employees of Liberty County whom I work for.
Thanks to my family (especially my brothers, our wives, our children, grandchildren and our cousins, the Taylor family) and, as always, thanks to The Home Team from Azalea Street. Thanks to my best friend from childhood, MACE Commander Capt. James “Chris” Reid for serving as grand marshal. Thanks to Marguerite West and Media on the Move for the photography.
And last, but certainly not least, I want to say a very special thank you to Platinum 40/40 Social Club for everything it did to support us, and more importantly, for everything it stands for. In this community, there are social clubs, and then there’s Platinum 40/40.
The Elect Lady and her children (II John 1:1), my mama loved the youth of this community, so being able to award scholarships to deserving students in her name is a blessing from on high, and I know she is smiling down on us.
Keeping her legacy alive is near and dear to our hearts, and although we would have done so without the creation of this foundation, we’re grateful to the community for supporting our efforts.
Liberty County, there’s a new scholarship in town and its name is Jackie Gilliard-Henderson! We still are accepting donations, so anyone who wants to help can call Gary Gilliard at 977-3527 or email ggilliard@clds.net for more details.
