Illegal immigrants costing us too much
Letter to the editor

Editor, Well, the rollercoaster ride is over and many in this country were overwhelmed by the result. This is especially true of the pollsters, who got it wrong; and the liberal media, who tried everything to elect Hillary Clinton. The voters of America got it right when they elected Donald Trump the 45th President of the United States.

Starting Jan. 21, we will be watching President Trump to see if he will live up to his promises, many of which he will need the cooperation of Congress to move forward.

His first campaign promise was to build a wall on our southern border. I will be watching this one closely, as it impacts us all more than many people realize. Besides the flow of drugs into our country, the impact of illegal immigration has had a huge toll on our country’s financial resources. Let’s look at what illegal immigration is costing us.

Between $11 billion to 22 billion is spent on welfare for illegal immigrants each year by the states, including Georgia. Food assistance programs, such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches cost us another $22 billion.

We see healthcare costs and premiums skyrocketing, yet $2.5 billion in Medicaid is given to these illegals. Our schools lack classroom materials and good pay for our teachers, however we spend $12 billion to teach the children of illegals, although they cannot speak English. In addition to that, we spend $17 billion a year for the education of the American-born children of illegal immigrants, known as anchor babies. Anchor baby status needs to be repealed.

Every day we hear about crimes committed by criminal immigrants. This costs the taxpayers $3 million a DAY to incarcerate these criminals — not counting the cost of the police and courts. That comes out to over a billion a year. Thirty percent of all inmates in Federal prisons are illegal immigrants. Don’t forget the toll crime takes on the victims and their families.

Some $90 billion a year is spent on Illegal immigrants for social services by the American taxpayer. In addition to this, it is estimated that wages are suppressed by $200 billion because illegals work for lower wages. If you want to raise minimum wages, get rid of illegal immigrants.

Liberals, who support unlawful immigration, say that the immigrants add to our economy, yet these same aliens send approximately $45 billion to their home countries every year, helping the economy of these countries — not America.

I think this has gone on for much too long. We need this money for American citizens. President-elect Trump is right.
