Keep Liberty Beautiful: Earth Day a great moment in time for KLB

Dr. Karen Bell, Keep Liberty Beautiful.

We all tend to remember great moments of time in our lives, and this past weekend was one in my life that I will never forget! I had the opportunity to walk across the stage during Capella University’s commencement after earning my Ph.D. Advanced Studies in Human Behavior from the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

I thought that day would never come and was so happy to share it with family and friends. Now, it feels natural when someone calls me Dr. Karen Bell.

April 22, International Earth Day, is a great time for Keep Liberty Beautiful. This year Keep Liberty Beautiful and Liberty County will hold our community event on Earth Day, April 22! We cannot wait for the community to join us to learn and have fun, all centered around our earth. It will take place at Bryant Commons from 3:30–6:30 p.m. and will be an in-person event!

Earth Day is a global movement that involves more than 1 billion people every year to act and make joint changes to care for our environment.

The theme this year is “Invest in Our Planet,” focusing on accelerating solutions to combat our greatest threat, climate change, and to activate everyone — governments, citizens and businesses — to do their part. Everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable.

Looking online, I found a lot of information on ways we can invest in our planet. Educators worldwide are calling for climate education to provide science, civic skills and inspiration to create a new generation of leaders in every field who will lead their countries, businesses, faiths and other institutions in this inevitable evolution. When you have time, look up ways you can make one change to invest in our earth.

Earth Day.org is an excellent resource to help people learn about our environment and celebrate the earth. The website has an Earth Day Action Toolkit full of activity ideas to help make a difference on Earth Day and every day. It also talks about the effects of climate change and how it may be the single biggest challenge our planet faces today. Climate change impacts many aspects of the daily lives of all living beings, including food and water availability, pollution, weather and natural disasters. So, come learn about the earth, because Earth Day is for our community and by our community. There will be more than 40 booths hosted by organizations, businesses, agencies and churches that partner with Keep Liberty Beautiful.

Join us on Earth Day, a great moment in time for Liberty County. Our celebration happens at Bryant Commons, 438 W. Oglethorpe Highway in Hinesville, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022. For more information, contact KLB at (912) 880-4888 or email klcb@libertycounty ga.com.

We still need booth hosts. Scan the QR code on the flyer to view the booth activities still available.

Also, don’t forget that the Great American Cleanup is still going on, and you can contact KLB to schedule a neighborhood or group cleanup. KLB provides cleanup supplies (garbage bags, safety vests, work gloves and even litter reachers) and water. This year, we are also supplying KLB T-shirts to all registered volunteers. Sign up online at https://bit.ly/KLB GAC2022, and contact Keep Liberty Beautiful at (912) 880-4888 or email klcb@libertycountyga. com if you have questions.

See you on Earth Day!
