Keep Liberty Beautiful
My grandson Bryce is 11 years old and loves asking questions and telling his Nana jokes! Bryce likes to help volunteer with me from time to time. Most of the time, he has no choice, because he goes where I go when he is with me.
I asked him whether he cared about the environment. His response was, “Yes, Ma’am.” So, this summer we are starting a garden at the house, and he can’t wait to try some veggies when they come up.
Bryce loves his phone and the internet, so I asked him to look up some ways to save the environment. He found some easy tips on things we all can do at home that are helpful for our planet.
On one website he found out that saving the environment is not hard to do if you take the time to make small changes to your lifestyle. If you change one thing and then add more changes as needed, you can make a big difference in our environment. These changes can help protect the planet while making the Earth healthier for us now and future generations. It takes us all to be environmentally conscious of what we are doing. Here are the tips Bryce found to help us have a clean, green, and beautiful Liberty County
: • Follow the 3 Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle! Upcycle things you don’t need in fun creative projects.
• Eat locally grown foods, cut back on meat and dairy, and shop at farmer’s markets. Try to conserve water and electricity around the house.
• Walk or bike rather than drive a car when possible. Volunteer your time to clean up the community and advocate for environmental awareness.
• You can plant trees and other plants in your yard that are native to your area to support local ecosystems and wildlife.
• Volunteer work has a direct positive impact on your area’s environment. You can volunteer to pick up litter, plant community gardens, or clean up rivers. Find an activity that suits your interests and schedule time to help regularly!
• Partner with Keep Liberty Beautiful on environmental projects. Organizations such as schools, church groups, or social clubs are welcome to participate.
• You can compost food and plant matter like yard trimmings, grass clippings, leaves, houseplants, sawdust, and wood chips.
• Avoid purchasing products with excess packaging.
• Borrow or rent items you need only for brief or occasional use.
• Save energy and natural resources by buying secondhand clothes. Visit thrift stores and vintage shops to buy clothing and look for other gently used goods like toys, games, furniture, and appliances.
• Reducing your water use saves energy and helps the ecosystem. Take short, five-minute showers, and turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth.
• Collect rainwater and use that to water your plants, rather than using a hose or sprinkler.
• You can always encourage others to help save the environment. You can spread the word about environmental conservation and share this information on social media and in conversations with your family and friends.
