Dear Editor:

It’s hard to explain how much Charles Shuman did for Liberty County. The youth and adult sports programs he started in this area 50 something years ago showed there was a great demand and need in the community.

This led to the formation of the Recreation Department for which he was the obvious choice to direct.

He built it up from nothing and provided the foundation for what it is today, and all Liberty County residents now have the opportunity to derive the benefits of recreation. When you consider all the other ways he contributed, including scouting, Jaycees, and many others, he has to be recognized as one of Liberty County’s finest.
