Dear Editor,
In what started which seems like ages ago, the county commission chairman and his council addressed the inevitable expansion on the east end of Liberty County. Commission Chairman Jimmy Smith (The Original) and remaining Commissioners had the forethought to recognize what unchecked pollution would do to “our little slice of heaven.”
Chairman “Jimmy” led his commission to ensure that any future development would be “clean industry.” In short — no steel mills, rubber factories, or any other type industry that spewed noxious looking smoke day and night, or polluted runoffs in our air and waterways.
Now there appears to be a kerfuffle about warehousing, which appears to me to be rather clean, but then again maybe I don’t know the truth and nothing but the truth.
Every once in a while I see Chairman “Jimmy” at Angies enjoying breakfast. I always like to stop and thank him for his forethought back then and wonder what his thought on this subject now.
What say you Jimmy (The Original)?
