September is full of Keep Liberty Beautiful events that I hope you will want to be involved in.

From recycling collections and a Shred It! Day to a program on gardening, and even nominations for our quarterly Win-Dex Awards, there are events that should pique everyone’s interest! Let’s see what you might be interested in doing.

• Our next Recycle It! fairs are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in our usual three locations: the Liberty County Health Department in Flemington, city hall in Walthourville, and the Midway Police Department. In addition to the items that we collect for recycling or safe disposal at these fairs, we will have a special Shred It! Day event at the Walthourville location. Shredding documents and personal information that you no longer need is a safe way to prevent identity theft. To participate, just make sure you are at the site by 12:45 p.m. For a list of all the items that will be collected at the fair sites, check out the ad in this edition of the Coastal Courier or go to www.keeplibertybeautiful.org.

• We are accepting Win-Dex Award nominations through Sept. 30. Each quarter, Keep Liberty Beautiful and the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce recognize two local businesses that are attractive and litter-free. These businesses set the standard for the way all our businesses will, hopefully, present themselves one day. You have a say in the selection process by nominating a local business that deserves to be appreciated. Nomination forms are available at the KLB office by calling 880-4888 or emailing klcb@coastalnow.net or at the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce’s office by calling 368-4445 or reading the Chamber’s weekly e-news. Awards will be announced at the October Progress Through People luncheon.

• And speaking of Progress Through People luncheons, Keep Liberty Beautiful is hosting the September edition at noon Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Performing Arts Center, 2140 E. Oglethorpe Highway in Flemington. These informative monthly luncheons are sponsored by the Chamber. Our speaker will be Anthony Fulton with Community Wellcare. He will discuss Wellcare’s Community Garden Initiatives and how beneficial they can be for neighborhoods and communities. All local residents are cordially invited to attend this luncheon. Tickets are $15 for Chamber members and $20 for nonmembers. Please RSVP by Sept. 15 by emailing operations@libertycounty.org or calling 368-4445.

• Just one more thing: We will announce this season’s HomeProud Recognitions for this season on Sept. 13. Thank you to those who sent in nominations and to these homeowners for their lovely homes and yards.

So whether you are a recycling freak, a concerned environmentalist, are interested in our community’s appearance or just like to garden and look at pretty homes, I hope you will join us for these September activities. All of them are conducted with you and the betterment of our community in mind!
