Appling pulls away for win

A big seventh inning by the Appling County softball team helped them claim a 12-3 win over Liberty County High School on Lady Panther field Thursday afternoon.

The game was a Region 2-AAA loss for the Lady Panthers who are now 5-7 overall and 0-3 in region play. The Lady Pirates held a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the inning Lady Panther Meleina Davis slugged a two-run homer pulling Liberty to within 5-2.
The Lady Pirates then scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning. Liberty answered back with one run off a ground out by De’Ana Gumataotao.

Davis was 1-of-3 with 2 RBIs. Gumataotao had one RBI. Madison Winn pitched five innings tossing three strikeouts. She walked two and gave up eight runs. Davis took the loss. She walked two and struck out two.

Tuesday the Lady Panthers play at Brantley County at 6 p.m.
