Five members of the Leaps and Bounds Gymnastics Team competed in the 2010 Round Up Invitational at The Gym Nest in Macon on Jan. 17.

The gymnasts were beginning the second half of their competitive season and secured spots on the medal stand.

The level 4 team was represented by gymnasts Tria Coleman, Allysia Dunkins, both of Hinesville, and Samantha Mendez, of Jesup. Coleman and Dunkins competed in the same age division with Coleman placing third in all events and-all around. Dunkins placed first all around on vault, beam and floor, and second on the uneven bars.

Mendez also competed in a separate age division and placed first on the beam, second on the floor, and third on the vault, uneven bars and all around.

Levels 6 and 7 were also represented by the team. Tiarra Rogers, a level 6 gymnast from Hinesville, finished with first place on the floor, second on the vault, uneven bars and all around, and third on the beam.

Jaci Tompkins, a level 7 of Ludowici, placed sixth on the uneven bars, seventh on the vault, ninth all around, and 10th on the beam and floor. With her performance Sunday, Tompkins has qualified for the Level 7 state competition in March.

The entire team, levels 4, 6 and 7, travel to Orlando, Fla., this weekend for the international 2010 Sand Dollar/Whitlow Invitational.

The team is coached by Vanessa Kuhns and Jodie Clackler at their facility, Leaps and Bounds Gymnastics Center, in Jesup. The team currently consists of 10 gymnasts competing at varying levels. For more information visit http://leapsandboundsgym.com.
