AUSA tourney raises $12,000

Golfers get their marching orders before the AUSA Golf Tournament started on June 15 at Taylors Creek Golf Club.

The Marne Chapter of the Association of the United States Army AUSA had its 10th annual Golf Tournament June 15 at Taylors Creek Golf Club on Fort Stewart.

Tournament organizer Gaby Howard said the tourney was the most successful in many years.

She said 24 teams competed.

Fort Stewart 3rd ID commander Maj. Gen. Leopoldo Quintas, garrison commander Col. Jason A. Wolter, Command Sgt. Maj. Rebecca Myers, Hinesville Mayor Allen Brown and other city and county officials attended. 

The tournament raised more than $12,000 for local scholarships.

Howard said the tournament was sponsored by JCB in Pooler. She added that the local Walmart contributed $2,500.

Howard thanked all the corporate, hole and team sponsors as well as the many food vendors who contributed to the tournament’s lunch and meals.
