Blue Tide boys victorious, girls fall

The Blue Tide boys basketball team defeated the Appling County squad on Tuesday. The Lady Tide fell to the Pirates.

During the boys game in Ludowici, the Tide manhandled the Pirates, 63-39, and had three players post double-digit numbers. Justin Boyd had 10 points, and Robert Reed and Norman Thompson each had 14. With the win, the arey 11-12 overall and 9-6 in Region 2-AA.

Tonight the Tide take on Jeff Davis High School and there’s a lot riding on the match. At stake for both teams is a chance to finish above .500. Also, with the region tournament a week away, the winner will secure 2-AA’s No. 3 spot.

Jeff Davis brings a 5-9 region record into tonight’s game with an overall mark of 10-12.

Lady Tide 28, Lady Pirates 55

 

Although the Lady Tide played a strong first half against the Lady Pirates, including 12 points from Long County’s India Gamble, the Ludowici girls couldn’t manage a victory.

The Tide were down only 21-17 at intermission, but during the second half, the Pirates held Long County to 4 points. Appling went on to win 55-28.

For the remainder of the game, the Lady Tide mustered only 12 points. Gamble finished the night with 16.

The loss dropped Long County to 3-19 overall and 3-12 in the region. Tonight they face the Lady Yellow Jackets from Hazelnut, who bring a 4-10 region mark into the game and a 10-13 overall record.

The Lady Tide play at 6 p.m. and the boys game starts at 7:30 in Ludowici.
