Blue Tide hosts signing night for 12 seniors
Blue Tide signing night
A signing night was held for 12 Blue Tide seniors, including the first Tide athlete to sign to play flag football in college, record-setting quarterback Kyleigh Sizemore. Also signing were Shannon Filkins, Roderick Randall Jr., Landon Runyon, Jamison Thomas, Imani Pouncey, Jesse Magly, Alex Cason, Jashaun Manghane, Steven Wyatt, Salomon Medina Jr., and Kamdyn Gramsch-Milliken.

Long County High School held a signing night for its class of 2024 senior student-athletes on May 8. Twelve students signed letters of intent to play at the collegiate level in front of a packed house in the high school cafeteria.

Four signed to play baseball, one for girls’ basketball, one for flag football, three for football, one for track and two for boys’ soccer.

Two pairs of baseball players will be teammates at the collegiate level as Shannon Filkins and Roderick Randall Jr. signed to play at NAIA school Truett McConnell University. Jamison Thomas and Landon Runyon signed to play at junior college East Georgia State College.

Randall, Filkins and Runyon have all been key players for the Blue Tide since their freshman year and, as Coach James Hobbs put it, Jamison “should have been as well.” Thomas spent his first three years at Liberty County.

Imani Pouncey signed to play basketball at Bob Jones University, a N-CCAA school in Greenville, South Carolina. She joins her brother, Tostadas, who also plays for the men’s basketball team.

Kyleigh Sizemore becomes the first Blue Tide player to sign to play flag football at the collegiate level. She will play at NCAA Division III school LaGrange College.

Head coach Paul Austin revealed that after the state of Florida completed its season (teams there play in the spring), Sizemore was now ranked third in the country for career passing yards with well over 12,000 in her career.

Alex Cason signed to play at the Savannah Sports Academy, Jashaun Manghane will play at NCAA Division III school Methodist University and Steven Wyatt will also play at a NCAA Division III school, Luther College.

Jesse Magly signed to run track at NCAA Division II school Mars Hill University. This comes after setting multiple school records in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.

Kamdyn Gramsch-Milliken will continue his career playing soccer at Warren Wilson College, a NAIA school, and Salomon Medina Jr. will join Filkins and Randall at Truett McConnell University to play soccer as well.

These 12 were not the only to sign scholarships as Ahmari Douglas will continue his football career at Georgia Military College and Ciazia Powe will continue her career playing soccer for the University of South Carolina-Beaufort.
