While his teammates were earning their "Kings of the Coast" crown at a tournament, 14U South Georgia Kings player Derrick Brooks Jr. was busy June 5-6 at the Regional Adidas Phenom Top 150 Camp in Atlanta.

Brooks showcased his talent and earned recognition as one of the top 25 performers at the camp.

Brooks’ father Derrick Brooks Sr., the SGK 15U coach, said there were roughly 100 kids at the camp.

"He was fortunate enough that a lot of coaches that were working at the camp really gave him high praise for his work ethics and skill level and overall demeanor," the elder Brooks said.

He said his son was evaluated in 25 categories. Participants were scored on defensive maneuvers, ball-handling, aggressive play, kicking the ball out to open shooters, dribbling, post plays and more.

Brooks said camp director Damon Daves, the Georgia regional director for Camp Adidas and the head coach for the Georgia Stars 14U team, commented on his son’s stellar performance.
