Team Hinesville weightlifting brothers Mack and Dominique Brunson placed fourth in their respective divisions at the 2010 American Open held Dec. 10-12 in Ohio.

Mack Brunson competed in the 69-kilogram weight class for the first time and lifted 110 kilos in the snatch and 137 kilos in the clean and jerk.

Dominique Brunson, competing in the 62-kilogram weight class, lifted 90 kilos in the snatch and hoisted 115 kilos in the clean and jerk.

Team Hinesville weightlifting coach Jenna Bussard said Mack Brunson’s performance included a personal best in the clean and jerk, and was a good outing for the current Linderwood University student.

Dominique Brunson, who normally places in the top three, said he wasn’t pleased with his outing.

"I was off. I didn’t like my performance at all," he said. "I was off the whole meet. I have to train more consistently. I need to be in the gym more. Before this meet I had a lot of after-school activities so I didn’t make it to training as often as I should have and that was the biggest factor."

Tomorrow, Team Hinesville lifters James Fox, Nick Stock, Dominique Brunson, Jalil Menifee, J. Bacon, David and Michael Purser will compete in the Georgia/Alabama Local Weightlifting Committee meet in Savannah at the Anderson/Cohen Weightlifting Center.

Bussard said there will be lifters from Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina.

"I’m hoping to have three lifters qualify for the upcoming Junior Nationals," the coach said.

The Anderson/Cohen Weightlifting Center is at 7232 Varnedoe Drive in Savannah. Admission is free and the competition begins at 2 p.m.
