First Presbyterian Christian Academy Highlander swimmers and cousins Xavier and Mackenzie McCartney qualified for the state swim meet in new swim categories last weekend during the Last Chance Meet in Madison.
Xavier McCartney swam the 100-yard butterfly for the first time this season and qualified for state with a time of 1 minute, 15 seconds. He has qualified for the state meet in every varsity event he has competed in this season, swimming coach Jonnie Larson said. He will swim the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke events at state.
Mackenzie McCartney dropped time in the 50 breaststroke event and qualified for state with a time of 47.42. She will be swimming the 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 100 individual medley events at state.
