LUDOWICI — First Baptist Christian Academy travels to Savannah to play Memorial on Monday beginning their baseball season. Head coach Drexel Blocker anticipates a strong season as FBCA finished fourth in the state last year with a 16-9 record.
“We have all my starters returning this season and the roster will be posted at the school, then we start with a full team,” Blocker commented.
Faith is part of the Georgia Christian Athletic Association, which governs the athletics under the guidelines of the Georgia Association of Christian Schools. Regional teams are tough as the larger schools in Atlanta and other area have a larger enrollment than Faith Baptist.
“Open Bible is going to be toughest team we play, that is one of our regional teams out of Valdosta, then it will get pretty tough playing teams out of Atlanta when we get to state. Those schools have 250-500 people in their schools we have around 180.”
In addition to baseball, FBCA is gearing up for girls’ softball. Head coach Jared Sellars, who also coached the boys’ basketball to a state title, preps the girls for their home opener against Gilead.
