A team composed of Chad Knudson, Chuck Smith, Ben Floyd and Ricky Floyd won the first annual HAPfan Golf Tournament on Saturday at Cherokee Rose Country Club.

Coming in second place was Jared Sellars, Mathew Sellars, Terry Sellars and Aaron Power, while Clifford Johnson, Andy Anderson, Robert Darby and Angel Cordero came in third.

The tournament was created in memory of Mabel Creel to help young golfers in Long and Liberty counties.

"There was a good turnout today and she would have loved it. There were some great door prizes, the sponsors were great and I’m sure she’s smiling up there, looking down and saying, ‘good job,’" said Tammy Ballance, who is on the HAPFan board of directors.

According to Elise Stafford, Creels daughter, the inaugural tournament had 22 teams and six eagle sponsors, who each donated $500.

These sponsors were Buddy Carter, Jones Medical Equipment, CenturyTel, Stafford Contracting, Always Feet/Dr. Borden, and Arnold, Stafford, and Randolph.

In addition to the prize money given to the top three teams, there were awards for being closest to the pin and the longest drive. The golfers received door prizes and enjoyed lunch.

Clifford Johnson, a member of the third-place team, said, "I think today went very well. Everyone did a good job. The teams did a good job, the organizers did a good job and it is for the youth, so it’s a good cause and I’m sure who ever benefits from it will appreciate it."
