FPCA, Liberty fall in scrimmages
Preps roundup
football

FPCA: First Presbyterian Christian Academy fell 59-6 to Westwood on Friday at Long Bell Stadium in the Highlanders’ season opener.

First Presbyterian’s only points came in the first quarter and the Highlanders, who compete in Georgia Independent Schools Association Region 2-AA, trailed 40-6 at halftime.

FPCA (0-1) plays Friday at Greater Bethlehem Temple Christian in Newnan.

SCRIMMAGE: Liberty County High School, which finished 11-2 in 2016, was recently ranked No. 8 in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s preseason Class AAA poll.

Still, the Panthers may be in rebuilding mode. Either that, or Friday’s scrimmage against visiting Brunswick was just a bad night. The Pirates, from Region 2-AAAAAA, rolled past Liberty 42-0 and had two scores called back.

D1: A local player is getting attention from recruiters at what used to be called D1 schools - now they’re either BCS, G5 or FBS — and this one plays at Bradwell Institute.

His name is Kevin Harris, and he’s a 6-foot, 210 pound junior running back who’s already been offered by Tulane. Stay tuned
