The First Presbyterian Highlanders are just one victory away from going to the championship game after last Saturday’s win over Heirway Christian Academy at Brewton Parker College in Mount Vernon. The Highlanders toppled Heirway 59-44 with Joey Bell once again posting the top scorer of the game with 15 points. Bell also wowed the crowd by dunking the ball over his 6’10” opponent making the WTOC play of the day. Hakeem Golden gave his best by out rebounding the opponents who all ranged in size from 6’4” to 6’10”.
This will be the second time in the team’s three year history going into the final four and assistant coach David Linderman said they stand a good chance of making to the final championship game.
The first opponent to stand in their way is Fullington Academy. The Highlanders are schedule to tip-off against the 12-12 overall and 6-2, 3-A regional semi-finalist Thursday at 1 p.m. at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville.
The Highlanders are 23-4 overall and 12-2 in region 2-A of the Georgia Independent School Association. With a victory over Fullington they head into the championship game where there is a high probability they will face their rival Bethesda for the crown. The only two losses the Highlanders have in their region has come at the hands of Bethesda.
