ATLANTA - After accepting an invitation to the 2008 Chick-fil-A Bowl on Wednesday, Georgia Tech (9-3) learned today that its opponent will be defending national champion LSU (7-5). The Yellow Jackets and Tigers will square off in the New Year’s Eve game at the Georgia Dome (7:30

p.m./ESPN) for the first time since the 2000 Chick-fil-A Bowl, a 28-14 LSU win behind 19 fourth-quarter points.

Tech moved up to No. 14 in the Associated Press poll today, its highest ranking since the week of Oct. 21, 2006, when it was ranked 13th.  This is Tech’s third trip to the Chick-fil-A Bowl, formerly the Peach Bowl.

The Jackets are 0-3 in those games, the last loss coming in 2000 against LSU.

LSU leads the all-time series against Georgia Tech 12-6, but that 2000 game was the first meeting between the two teams since 1963, Tech’s last year as a member of the Southeastern Conference. The Jackets, who already own wins over Mississippi State and Georgia, are looking to go 3-0 against SEC teams this season.
