The Long County Touchdown Club will have its third annual golf tournament to raise money for the Long County High School Varsity Football Team on May 3.
The tournament will at the Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville and will be a four-person, captains’ choice scramble. The entry fee will be $50 per person, with mulligan’s included. Sign-in will be at 12:30 p.m. There will be a meal served after play, and prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams.
In addition to prizes for the team event, there will be prizes for the closest-to-the-pin ball and the longest drive. There also will be door prizes.
Liberty Chrysler Plymouth, Dodge and Jeep of Hinesville has donated prizes, including a $250 gift certificate from Bass Pro Shop and a set of golf clubs.  They also will be giving away an automobile for the first person who scores a hole-in-one on a selected par-three hole.
The club is the booster club for the football team and raises money to help with cost not covered in the program’s budget. In the past the proceeds have bought equipment, uniforms and sent players to performance camps.
“It cost around a $1,000 to suit up one ball player from head to toe, so the cost can be high. Also some kids need cleats and can’t afford them. We help in whatever way we can,” tournament chairman, Joey Harrison said.
Early registration is preferred, but golfers can register the day of the tournament. Entry forms can be obtained from the Cherokee Rose Country Club, the Long County Board of Education Office, or from boosters.
For more information or to register, call Harrison at 545-3104 or head football coach Kyle Wilson at 545-3134.
The club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at the fieldhouse, behind the football field. For more information on the club, you can contact Dee Di Bailey at 294-3004.
