Highlander 55, Bethesda 46

The Bethesda Blazers were desparate to avenge two state title losses to the First Presbyterian Christian Academy Highlanders and kept the score close in the later part of the game.

But the Highlanders had something to prove and edged out a 55-46 win Saturday afternoon giving some of the varsity boys their third state ring in a row.

It's Highlander coach David Jones' first state ring after taking over as the school's Athletic Director and boys basketball coach.

These two teams exchanged region titles in the past, but the Blazers have now been denied their third state crown at the hands of the FPCA boys who, this season, were 3-1 against their strongest GISA 2-A opponent.

The game ended after the Courier's Sunday press run but you can read the entire story and catch the team's trophy moment in Wednesday's Coastal Courier.

Lady Tigers 69, Luella 49

The Lady Tigers hosted Luella in the first round of state and coasted to a 69-49 win at home Saturday night. Lady Tiger Seandre Lee led the scores with 27 and Mariah Maternik scored 20 including 2 from the 3-point line for the win.

The girls will tip-off at home on Wednesday for round two and will face Riverdale. They played Riverdale once before at the Macon Christmas Tournament winning the game.

Lady Panthers 45, Kendrick 68

The Liberty County Lady Panthers are one and done after losing to Kendrick 68-45.
