Lady Panthers take round 2 from Long Lady Blue tide

Outscoring the visiting team from the start, the Liberty County Lady Panthers defeated the Long County Lady Tide 60-22 in their second match of the season Friday night in Flemington.

In the first quarter, the Lady Panthers ran up a 17-3 lead and continued to extend the lead exponentially, winning by 38 points.

Courtney Rhodes earned a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. But it was Kourtney Alexander who led the scoring with 21 points. Both girls got three steals and Alexander had eight rebounds.

Alexander also connected from the three-point line three times and Jasmina Smith hit a three point shot in the fourth.

Lady Panther coach Carolyn Kelly maintained the press, shutting down the visitors’ ability to score and allowing only three points in the first, eight points in the second, four in the third and seven in the final quarter.

Shamika Richardson and Jamika Boyd led the Lady Blue Tide with seven buckets apiece. Ludowici is still looking for its first victory of the season.

The 0-5 overall and 0-2 region 2-AA Tide were scheduled to travel to Tattnall County for their second region game of the season Saturday evening. The Lady Panthers were set to host McIntosh Academy Saturday afternoon.
