Lady Panthers win 3 of 5 in busy stretch

The Liberty County softball team dominated its home doubleheader Friday against New Hampstead.

The Lady Panthers won the first game 9-0 and took the second game 13-1.

Statistics had not been posted by press time from the games. Liberty’s schedule this week also was unknown as this issue went to press.

In Thursday’s first game at Portal, the Lady Panthers used a four-run sixth inning to pull away for the win.

Kathryn Carter pitched all seven innings for Liberty, holding Thomson to three hits and a walk while striking out 10 batters.

At the plate for the Lady Panthers, De’Anna Gumataotao had a double, two RBIs and a run. Mackenna Tippett had two hits and both scored and drove in a run.

Tia Anderson drew two walks and scored a run.

Thomson eked out a win in the second game by scoring a run in the top of the eighth.

Kaleigh Fisher had two hits, while Rachael Smith had two walks and scored Liberty’s only run.

Wayne County 6, Liberty County 0

The Lady Panthers held to three hits — one each by Rachael Smith, Dejah Smith and Tia Anderson — in Wednesday’s home game.

Kathryn Carter got the start for Liberty and gave up five unearned runs, four hits and a walk in 4 innings. She struck out two batters. Kaleigh Fisher pitched the final 2 innings and gave up one unearned run, two hits and two walks to go with one strikeout.
