The Long County Lady Blue Tide softball team knew they needed to get back on the winning track if they wanted a shot at making the state playoffs.
They did so on Thursday, September 9 against the Brantley County Herons, defeating them 7-1 to move to 4-8 and 1-7 in the region.
Senior Sam Pitts took the mound and threw a complete game, allowing just one run through the seven-inning stretch.
In the bottom of the second, the Tide got their bats going.
May Naki doubled and was scored by Rebecca Lust on a double of her own.
Pitts scored Lust two batters later to put her team up 2-0.
Pitts sat down two batters with strikeouts and allowed her team to add to their lead as Jaci Smiley smacked a triple and scored on a passed ball.
The bottom of the fourth saw the Tide continue to dominate the plate.
Lust got on base again with a single as Kassie Davis advanced her with her own single.
Pitts loaded the bases as Smiley, Taylor Hodges and Lanie Williams all added RBIs to make the score 7-1, the eventual final.
The Lady Tide have a chance to clinch a state playoff berth next week as they travel to play Pierce County and Appling County in two huge region games.
